BIOGRAPHY: Born and bred in Nottingham, Ted was raised behind the bar of his family’s pub, learning the trade from his father, who had learnt it from his father before him. For Ted, pubs aren’t just businesses – they’re the heartbeat of the community.

At twenty, Ted married Anna, the girl next door – quite literally the neighbour’s daughter – after a courtship filled with visits to the pictures, long nights spent out dancing and day trips to Skegness in his father’s Ford Anglia. Their partnership was as natural as pulling a perfect pint, and for more than fifty years they ran pubs side by side, becoming beloved fixtures of Nottingham’s local scene. Together they raised two daughters before being surprised, in their late thirties, by the arrival of their son, Johnny – a “change of life baby” who quickly became Ted’s pride and joy.

When Anna passed away at 72, Ted’s world dimmed, and he was left completely heartbroken. He moved in with Johnny, Tess, and their children, becoming the much-loved patriarch of the household. When he’s not propping up the bar, you’ll find Ted at the bookies dropping a few quid on the races or disappearing into a cloud of pipe smoke while playing the pools.
