BIOGRAPHY: Tess is the beating heart of the Montgomery clan, a woman whom her father-in-law describes as “just like the Queen Mum – a marshmallow made on a welding machine.” With a kind and calming presence, she is often nicknamed “Mother Teresa” by her children but can be incredibly formidable and unyielding when needed. She’s the sort of woman who remembers everyone’s birthday, notices when someone’s struggling, and won’t let a soul leave her pub hungry or unheard.

A proper matriarch, Tess’s world revolves around her family – she’s the glue that holds the Montgomerys together. But beneath the warmth lies a woman with a spine of steel. Tess is fiercely protective, and anyone foolish enough to cross her or her family will discover very quickly that her patience has limits. It is this protective nature that has seen the family move to Glendale from Nottingham in a bid to “escape some trouble”.

The one calming and steady influence in her life is her husband, Johnny. Tess met Johnny at 17, back when she was the clever, sensible girl who always did her homework early, and he was the cheeky charmer who could talk his way out of any detention. She had absolutely no time for his antics – until he flashed her that grin. One smile, and suddenly she was agreeing to go to the cinema to watch Speed. The film was good, the company better, and from that night on they were inseparable. She’s been his anchor ever since, and he’s been making her laugh for three decades.

Now, as she steps into her new role at The Oak & Vine, Tess is the landlady everyone wishes they had… unless they’re daft enough to get on her bad side.
