BIOGRAPHY: Born and raised in the Yorkshire Dales, Arthur had moved south in his late teens, seeking employment opportunities away from the mines. After landing an administrator role at Laffan’s Flour Mill on the outskirts of Glendale, he met Hilda at a dance in the village hall, and from that moment on, they were inseparable.

Married for just shy of 50 years, Arthur and Hilda are a double act adored by the locals of Glendale. Long-suffering Arthur is the ying to Hilda’s yang. Correcting her malapropisms is his life’s work, and their enduring partnership, which has seen them welcome four children and seven grandchildren, is an inspiration to many in the village.

It isn’t uncommon to find Arthur sitting in The Oak & Vine, with his usual pewter tankard full of ale, working on his pools betting, or in the garden at Buttercup Cottage pottering about while simultaneously puffing away on a tobacco pipe.
