BIOGRAPHY: Pamela met Brian, the boy who would one day become her husband, when they were both still in high school. What began as a wonderful, carefree teenage romance soon became a nightmare marriage she’s been unable to escape for nearly fifty years.
As the years passed, Pamela and Brian raised three children – Ben, Gemma, and Hamish. Eventually, Brian handed the reins of the farm to their eldest son, allowing Pamela to step into retirement. She now spends most of her days helping to care for Ben’s twins, Oliver and Poppy. To them, she is simply “Granny” – all hugs, smiles, and smelling of lavender hand cream – but what they don’t see is the bruises, tears, and pain.
Behind closed doors, Pamela has endured an abusive marriage from the very beginning. Brian’s cruelty has been constant – physical and sexual violence, psychological torment, and emotional manipulation. Over the years, he has chipped away at her confidence piece by piece by controlling what she wears, monitoring where she goes, dismissing her opinions, and gaslighting her until she doubts her own memory, judgement and worth.
The confident, sparkling young woman she once was has been slowly diminished into someone timid, anxious, and wary of putting a foot wrong who conceals their bruises under long sleeves and carefully applied makeup and perfected painted-on smiles.
Yet even after decades of cruelty, Pamela’s heart remains unspoiled. She is a deeply loving mother, grandmother and friend and is gentle to her core. But as Brian’s rage continues to escalate with age, the bruises are harder to hide, the fear harder to swallow, and the question she has avoided for years grows louder: How much more can she endure?
