BIOGRAPHY: In her nineties, Audrey is the respected matriarch of both the Granger and Spencer families.
Born in the Glendale Vicarage to the then-vicar, George Owen, and his wife, Grace, Audrey grew up at the heart of village life. With no sisters of her own, she formed a lifelong bond with Queenie Baxter, a friendship that remains as strong as ever. In her late teens, she fell in love with William Granger, the charismatic son of a local farmer, and they were soon married. Together, they raised their family and became well-loved figures within the Glendale community. Their union lasted almost fifty-four years, until William’s sudden death from a heart attack in October 2004 left Audrey devastated.
The transition into widowhood was long and difficult. Audrey struggled with depression and withdrew from those around her before gradually finding her footing again and resuming her role at the centre of the Spencer–Granger clan. Further heartbreak came in 2024, when her grandson Tom took his own life in the barn at Greystone Downs following the exposure of his affair. Though shattered by the loss, Audrey helped guide her family through the tragedy.
Earlier that same year, a fall at her home of five decades forced another major change. Encouraged by her children, she made the painful decision to sell Willow Cottage to the Worchester family and move into Acorn Cottage with Queenie.
Now, in her twilight years, Audrey remains a cherished and much-loved member of the village.
