BIOGRAPHY: A beloved figure in Glendale, Carol is deeply rooted in the heart of the community as a member of the village’s prominent Granger family.
Carol first fell in love with Richard Spencer, a young farmer from Glendale’s other well-known farming family, and together they raised three children. But the marriage was deeply unhappy; Richard’s philandering eventually drove them apart, and Carol took work as a cleaner at The Oak & Vine to support her family.
It was there that fate intervened. Carol formed a close friendship with Tony Kennedy, the pub’s recently widowed landlord, which soon blossomed into romance. After a few years, they married, with Carol stepping into the pivotal role of landlady of The Oak & Vine – a position she fully embraced that saw her flourish and become a pivotal pillar of the Glendale community.
In 2024, Carol’s world was shattered when her son, Tom, took his own life. Following the exposure of his extramarital affair, he hanged himself in the barn at Greystone Downs Farm, and tragically, Carol was the one to discover him. Despite the paramedics’ best efforts, Tom died on the barn floor before her eyes. Her grief was compounded when her incarcerated stepson, Luke, returned to Glendale, seeking revenge on those he believed had wronged him – including Carol.
The combined devastation of Tom’s death and Luke’s relentless torment proved overwhelming, leading to a complete mental breakdown that required months of hospitalisation. Now home, with the stresses of daily life mounting and Luke AWOL, Carol and Tony have made the difficult decision to sell The Oak & Vine, marking the end of an era as they step away to enjoy a long-overdue and well-earned retirement.
