BIOGRAPHY: As the affable and dependable landlord of The Oak & Vine, Tony has been a cornerstone of the Glendale community for nearly four decades. Born and raised in nearby Maidstone, he inherited the pub from his uncle Walter and moved to Glendale with his first wife, Diane, and their young son, Luke. But the idyllic village life they imagined was shattered when Luke fell into drug addiction and became entangled in the criminal underworld. His downward spiral culminated in a manslaughter conviction. The news devastated Diane, placed an unbearable strain on the marriage, and ultimately contributed to her death in 2008.
Left alone, grief-stricken, and contemplating selling the pub and leaving the village altogether, Tony reached a crossroads. Fate intervened when Carol Spencer – recently divorced and struggling to make ends meet – took a job cleaning The Oak & Vine. A connection sparked almost immediately between them. Kindness turned to friendship, friendship to romance, and eventually the pair married, breathing new life into the beloved pub.
But their happiness wasn’t to last. After the tragic death of Carol’s son, Tom, the couple endured fresh turmoil when Luke was released from prison. Far from seeking redemption, Luke returned with cruelty and malice, tormenting Carol emotionally and psychologically. His manipulations escalated when he attempted to con her elderly mother, Audrey Granger, out of her life savings. The stress and fear inflicted by Luke pushed Carol into a severe mental health crisis, resulting in her spending several months in a psychiatric facility. Luke fled the village shortly after, leaving devastation in his wake.
Now back home and recovering, Carol and Tony have made the difficult decision to sell The Oak & Vine to its new owners, Johnny and Tess Montgomery. As they prepare to hand over the keys, the village marks the end of an era, while for Tony and Carol, it is finally time to step away from the bar and begin a quieter, gentler chapter of their lives.
